Why Glass and Diving?

"By chance a friend of mine went to see the windows of Chartres two days after having dived twenty seven fathoms into the Mediterranean. The result was a complicated argument that ended with us all standing in front of the windows of the Sainte-Chapelle. In all sincerity we had to admit that no window compared with the blue of the Mediterranean depths."

Philippe Diole, The Undersea Adventure (The Poetry of  the Sea). 1953.
